Statement of Work / Position Overview

Our client is seeking to engage a Commissioning Director to oversee the operations of the Concord Commissioning Group for the New York / North Jersey (Metro) region.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the business development, operational leadership, and financial performance of the commissioning practice in the region, including oversight of projects, staff, and client relationships.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Location: NYC or other location (TBD)

The Commissioning Director will be responsible for:

  • Managing all aspects of the NYC/Metro area Commissioning Office, including business development, office personnel, proposal generation, project execution, and overall job performance profitability.

  • Serving as a working Director capable of directly executing projects when required.

  • Leading the direction and development of the NYC/Metro Commissioning business in alignment with the broader growth objectives of Concord's Corporate Commissioning Department.

  • Implementing standards and processes that streamline project delivery, enhance client value, and improve execution of the commissioning process.

  • Managing project profitability and departmental billability, including balancing personnel workload with the Corporate Commissioning team.

  • Driving business development activities in accordance with corporate growth objectives.

  • Tracking project financial projections for office-assigned projects and business development initiatives.

  • Conducting new client introduction meetings and attending project pre-bid meetings prior to proposal development.

  • Overseeing proposal development and fee estimation, with final review by the SVP, Commissioning prior to submission.

  • Continuously analyzing the NYC/Metro commissioning market and competitive landscape to support increased market share.

  • Ensuring commissioning personnel have access to current industry technologies and appropriate training.

NYC / Metro Personnel Management Responsibilities

  • Recruiting, hiring, and retaining new team members as workload demands, with support from the Corporate Commissioning SVP.

  • Providing technical leadership and guidance to the NYC/Metro Commissioning Group to ensure successful project delivery and strong client relationships.

  • Managing and overseeing field commissioning activities to ensure quality standards are maintained and workloads are balanced among team members.

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key project stakeholders to generate repeat and new business opportunities.

Minimum Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (MBA or related Master's degree preferred but not required)

  • Commissioning certification issued by AEE, BCA, ASHRAE, or ACG

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive managerial, engineering, or construction experience, with a demonstrated track record managing complex, multi-faceted projects involving planning, cost control, and performance oversight

  • Construction or general contractor experience preferred but not required

  • MBA, P.E., or other certifications from accredited profession bodies preferred but not required
